With Ascent Media’s leading-edge technologies, digital film scanning for new projects and archived masters couldn’t be easier or more convenient. For restoration of valued works, Ascent offers the pin registered Northlight 2 with scanning resolutions up to 8K in standard, vista and 3-perf formats. The Northlight 2 can safely accommodate films exhibiting shrinkage up to 0.75% through the use of the "archive gate." For compositing and special effects generation for new film projects, film data is scanned up to 6K on ARRI scanners, and Quantel IQ nonlinear editing systems are used to conform, drop in special effects and complete opticals before color correction begins. Then, utilizing a da Vinci 2K with a Barco DP100 digital projector, we can provide real-time color correction with no rendering required.
In addition to our industry-leading film-scanning methods, Ascent’s nonlinear, file-based DiTV suite of services provides scanning of film/tape/data that is 25% faster than real time for television, advertising and other content creators. All media is captured RAW on Ascent’s SAN server. As all processes (like color correction) are nondestructive to these RAW frames, creatives can access and re-process their media an infinite number of times.
